All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they moist and simmer for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that may get lost once you inhale with it. It can be quite subtle flavor. It always bums me out when that occurs, because I LOVE the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

So when great flavored banana treats come along, we go a little mad for them.

These cookies make the record of banana items to go mad for. Without a doubt.

And they are so moistthey melt in your mouth. In addition, using both banana and oats in them, they're basically healthy, correct? And ideal for breakfast!

Making them is equally as easy as eating them.

You start with mixing all of those lovely components together.

I must warn you. The odor of that mixture -- with all the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen which makes the dough with me (we made a deal that contained him with me) and we had to work hard not to put our faces, or a straw, right into it.

You then add all the ingredients (which means you simply use one bowl yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of dough and create a thick disk, as opposed to a ball. They spread somewhat when baking, so don't place them too close together. Bake them for approximately 10-12 minutes to get a nice, moist cookie. So yummy!

1 other thing I really like about this recipe is where it came from.

My grandma (my father's mom) passed away in 2008. After I started draining a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me her cookbook that he'd had didn't use. I have had it on my list to make numerous her desserts since.

My dad and I made her gaufrettes (a French cookie -- my great grandparents were French) a year or so past. It was a tradition for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She gave everyone a large tin of these, which had been really an effort with 6 sons.

I know just how much of a feat it had been! My goodness. She made them with a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over an open fire. My dad and I had them around the cooker. They cook very quickly and you have to be precise. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated into the iron. As long and they burnt to the iron and we still needed to wash it out.

My father was minding the batter and taking away the cookies, I was working the iron, the hubs was time things. It required many tries to get it right, but they had been so good! I have tried to create them again on my own and it never works. I'd like to share the recipe, site web however, the dang irons are all so tough to discover. And expensive. At some point, I'd like to just earn a cookie with the identical gaufrette flavor.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, too. There are so many handwritten pages, including clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped to the publication. I really like the way that they used to write recipes in the newspaper -- they had the person who submitted it's name and adorable little stories. It's so enjoyable to read through them! What another time in the world!

Anyways, I do not really know where this recipe came out. The paper appears like it had been on a flier out of their square dancing group or something (they have been big into square dancing). It is undoubtedly from West Virginia, where they dwelt.

Either way, I'm so glad to finally talk about a recipe from her book with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being enjoy the banana.

Return: 34-36 COOKIES



1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats


1. Mix together egg, brown sugar, egg, sugar, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well blended.

2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and mix until combined.

3. Stir in milk.


5. Flatten dough a little bit, into thick disks. They'll spread a little when baked.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just start to gold.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then proceed into cooling rack to finish cooling.
